Festive days out for all the family
Christmas at Crealy Adventure Park
If you're staying with little ones, Crealy's Christmas celebrations are a lovely way to get into the festive spirit. Enjoy seasonal entertainment and family fun at the park, which is open for its Christmas event from 18–23 December and again from 27–31 December. It's a great option for keeping the children entertained during the school holidays.
All aboard the Polar Express at Seaton Tramway!
Believe in the magic of Christmas with a festive ride on the Polar Express at Seaton Tramway. It's a wonderful Christmas treat for younger visitors and anyone who loves a little festive magic. The Polar Express runs from **18–24 December**, with the tramway's normal service resuming from 27 December onwards. Advance booking is recommended for the special Christmas rides.
A Christmas circus at Greendale
Looking for an alternative to the traditional pantomime? Paulos Circus at Greendale Farm Shop is a fantastic option, with spectacular circus acts and entertainment for all ages. It's a great way to enjoy something a little different during the festive holidays.
A festive cruise with Stuart Line Cruises
Wrap up warm and enjoy a special festive river cruise with Stuart Line Cruises from Exmouth. It's a lovely opportunity to take in the scenery of the Exe Estuary from the water and enjoy a different perspective on our beautiful coastline. Check their seasonal timetable for available sailings.
Let someone else do the cooking this Christmas!
One of the joys of a self-catering cottage is having the freedom to do as much or as little as you like. You can enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner at your cottage, pop out for a festive lunch or take a complete break from the kitchen!
There are plenty of lovely pubs and restaurants around East Devon, and many will be open at various times over the festive period. You can find further details on our Alpine Park Cottages guest app.
If you're hoping to eat out on Christmas Day 2026 itself, the following establishments are options to investigate:
The White Hart, Woodbury
Christmas Day tables are always popular, so please contact the venues directly to check their festive menus, availability and booking arrangements. We strongly recommend booking well in advance to avoid disappointment.
Boxing Day: Blow away the Christmas cobwebs!
After a day of festive food and perhaps one too many mince pies, why not get out into the fresh air?
Greendale Farm Shop hosts its regular Parkrun, making it a great place to enjoy a sociable 5km walk, jog or run. The Boxing Day 2026 event is a lovely idea for anyone keen to start the day actively before returning to the festivities. Please check the organisers' latest Christmas arrangements before travelling.
If running isn't quite your thing, there are plenty of beautiful walks nearby to help you stretch your legs and enjoy the Devon countryside.
Enjoy the great outdoors
Sometimes the simplest pleasures are the best, and East Devon is particularly beautiful at this time of year.
Woodbury Common offers miles of open heathland and woodland tracks, with wonderful views across the surrounding countryside. Wrap up warmly, pull on your walking boots and enjoy a peaceful winter wander.
Sidmouth’s coastline is equally lovely in winter. Take a stroll along the seafront, admire the dramatic red cliffs and breathe in the fresh sea air. You could also head to Budleigh Salterton or Exmouth for a bracing beach walk and some beautiful coastal scenery.
For something a little different, The Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth is another lovely place to visit throughout the year
Make the most of your festive break
Whether you fancy a family adventure, a festive show, a leisurely walk or a delicious Christmas lunch without the washing-up, there's plenty to enjoy in and around East Devon.
And, of course, you can always take things at a slower pace, enjoy the comfort of your cottage and spend some quality time together.
A little reminder: Festive events, restaurant opening hours and tickets can change, so please check directly with each attraction or restaurant before making plans. Advance booking is essential for many Christmas events and Christmas Day meals.
