We chose to embark on our Dartmouth adventure via the Lower Dart Car Ferry from Kingswear, a delightful journey that offers stunning views of the Dart Estuary. Upon reaching Dartmouth, we found ourselves conveniently parked in the town center. For those who prefer to skip the ferry, Dartmouth offers a popular Park and Ride option, ensuring a hassle-free arrival into town.

Strolling along the embankment, we were greeted by a plethora of boat trips awaiting eager passengers. Opting for a leisurely hour-long River Cruise with the Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company, we set sail on the tranquil waters of the River Dart. As the boat gently meandered downstream, we were treated to panoramic views of historic landmarks such as the Royal Britannia Navy College, the majestic Greenway House - former home of renowned crime writer Agatha Christie, and the quaint village of Dittisham.

Nature enthusiasts will delight in the abundance of wildlife that calls the River Dart home; we were fortunate enough to spot a graceful grey seal basking in the sunshine on a nearby pontoon. Heading back towards Dartmouth, the imposing Dartmouth Castle stood proudly on the estuary's edge, a testament to the town's rich maritime heritage.

Dartmouth itself is a treasure trove of independent shops and eateries, each offering its own unique charm. For lunch, we chose to dine at the Royal Castle, a historic establishment dating back to the 17th century. Nestled in the heart of Dartmouth, the Royal Castle provided the perfect setting to indulge in delicious cuisine while soaking in the town's atmosphere and history.

For those seeking alternative ways to experience Dartmouth's charm, the Steam train from Paignton offers a scenic journey along the picturesque English Riviera coastline, providing yet another perspective on this enchanting corner of Devon.
